Research Brief: Childcare is key for children’s safety and viability of farm businesses

This May 2023 research brief summarizes finding from the 2023 National Farm Families Childcare Survey with 860 responses from farm and ranch families from 47 states.

The findings provide documentation of the childcare challenges farm families encounter, and insights into the ways access to affordable, quality childcare affects farm economy viability, child safety, and stress levels and mental health in farming communities.

The research was conducted by Florence Becot and Shoshanah Inwood with contributions by Sarah Ruszkowski with funding from CDC NIOSH grant U54 OH009568-10. For more information, contact Florence Becot (florence.becot@psu.edu) or visit the project page.
